New light re: baptism?
by behemot ini heard rumors that "new light" is coming re: baptism.. it seems that those who got baptised without inner conviction or real dedication and / or cooled off afterwards, could get re-baptised.. anyone else heard something similar?.

For an 11 year old girl that's not in to FPS's I'd recommend the Wii
I'll second that advice, although finding a Wii could be quite difficult.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM LAWRENCE HUGHES
by SHUNNED FATHER inas you may have heard, the court of appeal has overturned three previous court decisions in my favour.
the lawsuit has been given the green light and is basically has remained intact almost exactly the way it started.
what are the odds of that happening?

Has any lawyer offered to do the case pro bono? That would be a heaven sent for you. With all of the possible publicity it could be worth it for them.

In addition to reading the research paper I mentioned eairler (which you should be able to find on the internet for free) I would suggest you read the book "Crisis of Conscience. I think that will give you more than enough stories to work from
The writer of the book, Raymond Franz, was on the Watchtowers highest council, the governing body. It is similar to your prophets, but not quite. Anyway he left the group wrote about his experiences. His website is CommentaryPress.com. His second book (In Search of Christian Freedom) is good as well, but is more doctrine oriented. That said it could give you great insight in how the JWs are similar in the poor arguments and reasonings they use to make their case.
Thanks for sharing your story, I find it quite interesting!

How many Fundamentalists study other beliefs?
by blueviceroy indo dyed in the wool believers ever look beyond the borders of what they are taught?.
how many people go to the grave having been exposed to only one school of thought?.
that is the real crime , ignorance and lack of choice, not any particular belief..

Or study a straw man version
Remember the book quite well. "Mankinds Search for God" I offered the book to a person I knew once and he basically replied that he didn't want to study about other religions from places other than the source of the belief. I had no reply being that JWs cry all the time about how people should find out about JWs from nobody expect JWs.

You did a good job.
The one thing that really drives the JWs nuts is when you question them about doctrines and dogmas they don't want you to know about. This would include the 1918/1919 divine selection by Jesus as well as much of the material in their "Daniel" and "Revelation" books.
Asking them right out of the blue "do you believe Jesus chose your religion in 1919?" and the follow up "what is the proof you have that can convince me?" are good. -

For the record, I was being sarcastic about the Illuminati. David Ike gives me the creeps (and the giggles).

The Index of forbidden books and suppressing free thought.
by martinwellborne inboy oh boy how we used to slate the roman catholic church for having a banned books list.
john peter carafa was a cardinal of the church in the mid 16th century, elected pope paul iv in may 1555 he then started to spread his own brand of fanaticism.
an ascetic like the dominican friar thomas de torquemada, he hated jews and shut them in ghettos, hated sodomites whom he burned, hated women and banned them from the vatican.

I can see some very vague similarities.
Catholicism spread amongst geographical areas and was fused into the every day life of the people who converted. It was part of their Society. Naturally books brought about a major change in the way society digested information.
JWs basically have always been a subculture, outside of society in general. Because of this the geographical factors are much different (small groups of JWs spread out over a large area as opposed to highly concentrated areas of believers).
Modern technology makes the world smaller. With a few clicks of the mouse information can make its way to your home that was simply never possible before. Small 'cults' like the JWs are no longer able benefit from lack of information available to the public about their group. -
